50th Anniversary Celebration

At the Somerset Steel Erection Company's 50th Anniversary Celebration, Dan Riggs welcome Warren Mostoller. Mr. Mostoller co-founded Somerset Steel with Sidney Riggs in 1958.
Boswell, PA (April 12, 2007). In 1957, Sidney W. Riggs, co-founder of Somerset Steel Erection Company, secured a $500 loan and with the help of his partner, Warren Mostoller, they started a successful business. Today the company employs over 80 people and has annual sales in excess of $20 million dollars. Consequently, Riggs purchased several more companies which are now under the umbrella of Riggs Industries, Inc. As Somerset Steel continued to grow, it was apparent that extra space was needed to accommodate additional employees and equipment. In 1999, a 6,400 square foot addition was added to their current building that is located in Boswell, PA.
Somerset Steel, the oldest of the Riggs’ companies, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with an open house at their office some time this summer. Mr. Riggs’ son, C. Daniel Riggs, serves as president of Somerset Steel and Harold (Buddy) Walker is the company’s vice-president. The firm is a full service industrial and commercial contractor, specializing in general construction, concrete work, and steel erection and fabrication.
When asked about his company’s 50th anniversary, Dan Riggs said, “Although my father is not here to celebrate this milestone with us, I know he would be proud of his employees who have contributed to our success and thankful to our customers and partners for their continued support of our business. My Dad, who began this business out of the trunk of his car, was a determined and hard working individual. Our 50-year anniversary is a tribute to his commitment and dedication in everything he set out to do.”
Riggs Industries, Inc. is one of the largest family-owned businesses in Somerset County, Pennsylvania and currently employs over 500 people. In addition to Somerset Steel Erection, the company operates Lincoln Contracting & Equipment, J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers, Lincoln Supply & Equipment, J&J Truck Equipment, James A. Redding Company and ErReR Hill Farms.
